How to write a funding announcement press release: the short answer

A funding announcement press release should lead with who raised what, from whom and why, in the headline and first paragraph. Then explain what your company does, what the investment is for, and include a founder quote and an approved investor quote, verifiable proof points, short company profiles and a media contact. Get investor sign-off first, and do not invite readers to invest.

  • Lead with the news: who, how much, why
  • Approved quotes from founder and investor
  • Verifiable facts only
  • Investor sign-off before sending

Before you send

Checks to make before you announce a funding round

  1. Get sign-off from investors

Confirm which investors can be named, whether the amount can be shared, and approve their quotes.

  2. Check the legal position

Do not invite readers to invest: in the UK that could be a financial promotion with strict rules. Listed companies have separate regulatory disclosure rules. Take advice if unsure.

  3. Check every fact

Customer numbers, growth figures and partner names must be accurate and approved for release.

  4. Plan the timing

Choose the date and time, decide whether to offer an embargo to selected journalists, and line up your website and social posts.

  5. Prepare your assets

Founder photos, logo and a short company fact sheet make it easier for journalists to cover you.

Getting coverage

How to get your funding news covered

What journalists look for

  • A clear story beyond the amount
  • A real problem and real customers
  • Well-known or relevant investors
  • A founder who is available to talk

Common mistakes

  • A headline full of jargon
  • Claims that cannot be checked
  • Sending it after the news is already public
  • No contact who answers on the day

FAQ

Funding announcement press releases: frequently asked questions

What should a funding announcement press release include?

A clear headline, a first paragraph with who raised what from whom and why, a short description of the company, what the investment is for, approved founder and investor quotes, verifiable proof points, short company profiles and a media contact.

Do I have to disclose how much we raised?

No. Some companies share the amount and some do not. Agree with your investors first. If you leave it out, make the rest of the story strong.

Should I name all my investors?

Only those who have agreed to be named. Lead investors usually expect to be named and to approve their quote.

When should I announce a funding round?

Usually once the round has closed and all parties have agreed the wording. Pick a weekday, plan the time and line up your website and social posts.

Should I offer an embargo?

An embargo lets selected journalists prepare a story in advance for a set time. Only offer it to journalists you trust, and make the embargo time clear.

Are there legal rules for funding announcements in the UK?

A release should report news, not invite readers to invest, because that could be a financial promotion with strict rules. Listed companies have separate disclosure rules. Take advice if unsure.

Will a funding press release get us press coverage?

It can, especially with a strong story, relevant investors and an available founder, but independent coverage is never guaranteed. Distribution and placements on named titles make sure the news is published.

Can United Press write and publish our funding announcement?

Yes. We write the release, place it on named titles and pitch it to journalists. Press release offer: guaranteed live within 3 days of approval or a 100% refund.
