Short answer: Yes, you can very often remove negative press and fake articles about you or your company from Google. Fake, copied and paid-for “news” pages are usually the easiest to take down, at the source or from Google. Real articles with errors can be corrected, updated or delisted. When an accurate story cannot be removed, we push it off page one. United Press has handled crisis and reputation work since 2001, and we check every article first before we name a route or a price.
Remove negative press: what we take down
- Fake articles about your company: made-up “news” stories, scam allegations and attack pages written to damage you.
- Paid or placed articles on small websites that pose as newspapers, often copied across many domains on the same day.
- Copied articles that reproduce another publisher’s story without permission, often with a new, harsher headline.
- Negative news articles that are false, out of date, or no longer in the public interest.
- Your name in old articles, removed or anonymised by the publisher.
- Negative videos and posts that repeat the story on YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Reddit and X.
- AI answers in ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews that repeat a fake or negative article.

How fake and negative articles are removed
| Route | When it works |
|---|---|
| 1. Removal at the source | The website deletes the article, removes your name or corrects it. Fake and placed articles often have no real newsroom behind them, which gives a strong case for removal. |
| 2. Copyright and copied content | The article copies another publisher’s story or your own text and photos. The copy can be taken off Google. |
| 3. Google policy removal | The site asks for money to remove content, shows private details, or is spam made to rank for your name. |
| 4. Data protection delisting | The article about you is inaccurate, out of date or no longer relevant. Google stops showing it for your name. |
| 5. Legal route | The article is false and causes serious harm. A solicitor’s letter or a court order can force removal. |
| 6. Push it down | When nothing above applies, we publish strong, true stories about you in trusted titles, so the negative article drops off page one. |
How to spot a fake article about you
- The website has no real editor, address or newsroom, only a Gmail or Proton email.
- The author’s name cannot be found anywhere else.
- The same story appears on several unrelated websites on the same day.
- An English article sits on a foreign local news site, between unrelated local stories.
- The headline is much harsher than the text below it.
- The website replies to a removal request by asking for money.
If you see two or more of these signs, the article is very likely placed or fake, and it can usually be removed. Never pay the website to remove it. Paying often brings more articles, and Google treats sites that charge for removal as abusive.

Negative press and AI search
ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and other AI tools build their answers from pages they find online. If a fake article ranks for your name, AI tools may repeat it as fact. Removing the source article and publishing accurate, trusted information is the way to change what AI says about you. Read more about removing your name from Google AI search.

Questions people ask
Can you remove a fake article about my company?
Yes, in most cases. Fake and placed articles usually break the website’s own rules, copy other people’s content or break Google’s spam policies. We remove them at the source or from Google, and we check every link first.
How do I remove negative press about me from Google?
Start with the source: ask the publisher to correct, update or remove the article. If that fails, use Google’s removal routes or data protection delisting. If the article is accurate and cannot be removed, push it down with strong, true coverage.
How long does it take to remove a fake article?
Source removals and copied-content removals can take a few days. Google policy and delisting requests usually take a few weeks. Pushing an article down usually takes two to six months.
Can you remove a real news article?
Sometimes. If it is inaccurate, out of date or no longer relevant, the publisher can correct it or remove your name, and Google can delist it for your name. Accurate, recent reporting usually stays, and we will tell you so plainly.
Should I pay the website to remove the article?
No. Paying the site often leads to more articles. Google treats sites that charge for removal as abusive, and that itself can be used to get the pages off Google.
Will it also disappear from ChatGPT and AI answers?
Usually, over time. AI tools rely on the pages they find. Once the source is removed and accurate information ranks, AI answers tend to change too.
