History

More than a century of local news

Frank Townshend published the first issue on 8 July 1905. The Rye family bought the paper a year later and ran it for 57 years before selling it in 1964. Its back issues have been digitised by the National Library of Australia.

In September 2024, Australian Community Media announced plans to close the print paper. The website gloucesteradvocate.com.au remains listed in our publication network, and we confirm it is live and publishing before you book.
